lexicon

If we were all to jump at the same time, it would move the whole earth... And when we share a common lexicon, we are more effective.

terms and talking points

Trade and The Right to Protect

  • Countries have a right to protect their economies.
  • Unprotected trade hurts the people of small, low-income countries, and the working class in high-income countries, while filling the pockets of the rich in both countries.
  • Wealthy businessmen use treaties unfairly to benefit them. We need local, living economies that work for all of us, not just a few of the richest people on earth.
  • Cross-border migration is often a result of unfair policies that give people no choice but to go searching for a living wage.
  • In a local, living economy, we choose life-sustaining practices that protect long-term sustainability, placing people, planet, and principle above profit and greed.
  • Protection is a good thing. All people have the right to defend themselves against attack, and countries have the same a right to protect their economies.
  • We don't need more irresponsible globalization. We need to grow local, living economies.

Migration

No matter where people migrate, everyone has the same fundamental rights:

The right to food, clothing, and shelter.

The right to an intact ecosystem.

The right to an intact community.

The right to autonomy and self-government.

The right to a living, local economy.

When unfair policies disrupt the ability of people to provide for themselves, people often have no choice but to migrate in search of a living wage.
